- The Toyota FJ Cruiser has a dedicated fan base and is considered a collector’s item due to its unusual styling and reliable mechanics.
- A special Final Edition was launched in the Middle East, limited to just 1,000 units, in beige color and blacked-out exterior details.
- The Final Edition retains the same 1GR-FE V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, and there are hints that Toyota may consider reviving the FJ Cruiser in the future.
A bit SUVs have the same characteristics as the Toyota FJ Cruiser. After first being introduced two decades ago at the North American International Auto Show as a concept car and going into production a few years later, this unusual yet powerful urban SUV has undoubtedly developed a loyal fan base over the years and is already considered a collector’s item.
Little has changed over the years, it seems that this recipe for unusual styling but reliable mechanics has been the best since the beginning, but a good thing can only last so long. Naturally, at some point Toyota was forced to end production of this now iconic model, and after years of success in showrooms around the world, a special edition was introduced last year for one last hurrah. This Final Edition was very limited and was only available to customers in the Middle East, so chances are you haven’t seen one that has been snapped up on the spot.
For FJ fans and die-hard Toyota enthusiasts, here’s everything you need to know about the latter Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Information has been gathered from many reputable sources, including Toyota and Ultimate Specs, to bring you these details about the 2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition.
The story of Toyota FJ Cruiser is not over yet!
Note the decade before this modern FJ Cruiser was even produced in 1954. This was the year Toyota first launched the now iconic and highly influential FJ series Toyota Land Cruiser. That first model has inspired Cruisers ever since, including this modern spin-off that proudly wears the important nameplate.
The FJ Cruiser, which of course debuted much later in 2007, is popular around the world, so even though the model was discontinued in America back in 2014 and later in Japan in 2017, Toyota continued to sell the funky SUV. in other markets. Such was the demand for this model.
The market in question was on the other side of the world, in the Middle East. The Toyota brand is extremely successful in this part of the world, and perhaps especially so in Saudi Arabia, where the FJ Cruiser has had impressive sales figures until recently. Thus, production lasted almost a whole decade longer than in America.
Toyota presented the latest version of the iconic FJ Cruiser
In order to properly honor the possible end of this legendary model (and no doubt to earn a few more important dollars before the possibility disappears), Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, who have been the authorized distributor of Toyota vehicles in Saudi Arabia since 1955, revealed this last hurrah special issue.
Only 1,000 of these Final Edition FJ Cruisers were put into production, and they will become available in early 2023 for interested Toyota customers. Like most of the latest special editions in the lineup, these FJ Cruisers come with some unique and no doubt incredibly desirable options and extras, which we’ll detail below.
That’s what makes the Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition special
Probably chosen because of the sandy environment of the Middle East, the theme of this Final Edition is definitely beige – inside and out. It might not be the most exciting color scheme, but it sure looks cool in the sand dunes and at least helps disguise when the car is dirty. Although only 1,000 of these were ever put up for sale, the beige Final Edition isn’t actually the rarest of colors to be seen on an FJ Cruiser; this award goes to the Dark Cherry Pearl FJ model, available as an option only for the first model of 2007.
Here are some of the unique customizations you can expect in one of these strictly limited special editions.
2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition Custom touches
- Most notable is the beige color scheme that sets this Final Edition apart from any other regular FJ Cruisers; Undoubtedly, these beige cars will command a significant collector’s premium for these already expensive cars. FJ Cruisers really do have excellent residual value, special edition or not!
- Another distinctive touch is the blacked-out exterior elements such as the front grille, door handles, bumpers, side mirrors and even the spare wheel cover. It certainly gives this goofy-looking retro-themed SUV a mean aesthetic.
- To identify these models as genuine, Toyota will place a unique number plate on each Final Edition.
What’s under the hood of this latest edition?
2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition Maximum power output: 270 horsepower
Much to the dismay of those expecting a special engine under the hood, Toyota will continue to use the same 1GR-FE V6 for these Final Editions. To be honest, it wouldn’t make much sense to change the production process to cram a more powerful engine under the hood, just to sell 1,000 units before discontinuing the model altogether.

Fortunately, the 1GR-FE is a powerful unit and always has been. The 4.0-liter V6 produces 270 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, making it powerful enough to compete with any rivals, if the FJ Cruiser actually has direct competition? Even though it’s not a V8, the six still sounds great, especially through the custom exhaust, and adds a certain character to the FJ Cruiser that the turbocharged inline-four just couldn’t match.
Is this for the FJ Cruiser?
While there’s no concrete word from Toyota confirming plans to replace the FJ Cruiser, it seems possible that a revival of this beloved nameplate could be in the works. For example, back in 2021, Toyota revealed the all-electric “Compact Cruiser” concept car, which they say will have a retro look and will be aimed at young professionals in an urban environment who may enjoy adventurous leisure. Doesn’t that sound like an FJ revival to you?
Recently, at the debut event of the Land Cruiser 250 series, a mysterious silhouette of such a car appeared on the rear screen; could there be a 2024 FJ Cruiser?
