DJI has just launched an impressive upgrade to its compact camera, the Osmo Pocket.
The Osmo Pocket 3 comes with a number of significant changes, including the addition of a larger 1-inch sensor for better image and video quality, and a larger 2-inch touchscreen display that cleverly flips to the side for horizontal framing or remains upright for TikTok – style vertical video.
The biggest appeal of the original Osmo Pocket and its successor is its compact size, making it easy to hold and carry, and to record video without drawing too much attention. Despite being heavier and slightly larger, the Osmo Pocket 3 still maintains an attractive level of compactness that will please both newcomers and those upgrading from the previous version.
The latest version of the Osmo Pocket also features faster focusing, better night shooting, slow motion video at 4K/120 frames per second and 1080p/240 frames per second, as well as support for DJI wireless microphones.
DJI’s new device retains its three-axis gimbal stabilization system and brings a number of improvements to its smart features, including ActiveTrack 6.0 which now offers Face Auto Detection mode and Dynamic Framing mode so your subject is always in frame, even if you’re recording yourself hands-free.
“With Osmo Pocket 3, we have reimagined handheld imaging, offering users a creative tool that combines unprecedented precision and portability,” said DJI’s Paul Pan in the release.
The first two Osmo Pockets were impressive for what they offered, but the Pocket 3 brings interesting upgrades that will appeal to serious vloggers as well as those who want something fun and affordable for special occasions like parties and holidays.
So, what are the downsides? Price is the main thing. The Osmo Pocket 3 will set you back $519, which is $170 more than its predecessor. The Creator Combo, which includes the camera, DJI Mic 2 transmitter, battery grip for more power, mini tripod, and carrying case, sells for $669. DJI hopes that interested people will see these improvements as worthwhile, although whether they have the spare cash to spend is of course another matter.
