Anya Taylor-Joy brings a warm atmosphere in the first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

It’s not unusual for a director to make a late move in his career. But George Miller seems to be a rare exception. Miller’s first feature film was actually his first Crazy Max in 1979, and he revitalized his career in 2015 with its critically acclaimed sequel, Mad Max: Fury Road. Now, Path of Rage finally got a prequel spin-off, Furiosa: Mad Max Saga. And if the first trailer is any indication, Miller still has his signature touch at 78 years old.

Charlize Theron originated the role of Imperator Furiosa in Path of Rage as Mad Max’s (Tom Hardy) reluctant ally, and she steals the film from him. For this prequel story, Queen’s Step star Anya Taylor-Joy takes the lead role as the much younger Furiosa. And he’s going to be busy in this post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. has explained the plot of the film with the following synopsis:

“As the world fell, young Furiosa was kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of the Biker Horde led by Warlord Dementus. As two Tyrants battle for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a path home through the Wasteland.”

Chris Hemsworth co-stars in the film as Dementus, with Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus, Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, and Daniel Webber as War Boy. Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, and Lachy Hulme also star in currently undisclosed roles.

Miller co-wrote the script Furiosa: Mad Max Saga with Nico Lathouris. This film will be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
