This may be our first look at the Google Pixel 9 Pro

Even though the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro only launched a few months ago, a new leak has emerged that suggests what Google might have in store for the Google Pixel 9 series. And it looks like big changes are coming.

We don’t expect to see the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro until the fall, which isn’t surprising. But new renders from OnLeaks and My Smart Price giving us a first look at what to expect later this year. Here’s a 5K render of the Pixel 9 Pro at its best, and there’s even 360-degree video, for a better look.

According to this render, it looks like the Google Pixel 9 Pro will have a smaller 6.5-inch flat screen. This may be good news for those who like smaller phones, as the Pixel 8 Pro currently has a 6.7-inch display. It appears the smaller display will also feature a punch-hole cutout in the center, which houses the selfie camera, and there will be thin bezels on all four sides of the display.

However, the bigger change involves the frame. Currently the Pixel 8 series has a round bezel, but leaks say it will change to a flat bezel. This is similar to the iPhone 15 series and, most recently, the Samsung Galaxy S24. The power button and volume rocker will be on the right edge of the Pixel 9 Pro, keeping the left edge clean, apart from the antenna lines.

At the top of the device you can see the mmWave antenna and microphone. From the render, it appears that the dimensions of the Pixel 9 Pro will be 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm, but with the camera bump it will be 12.0 mm.

Talking about the camera, the Pixel 9 Pro may also have a new design for the rear camera. This change will separate the telephoto sensor from the main sensor, and it is likely that Google will add a periscope telephoto sensor. And from the renders, the large sensor on the camera bar suggests that it will support variable aperture.

I find these new design renderings, at least for the Pixel 9 Pro, interesting. The Pixel series has had the same overall look for a few years now, and I think a design change is long overdue. I also like the flat edges that many smartphones use, as I find them more comfortable to hold. However, this is also a double-edged sword, as now every phone is increasingly similar to each other. Plus, the camera bump looks really big!

It’s still early days, and the final product may or may not look like this render. But at least we have an idea of what will happen.
