This is what happens when a gang of supercars drifts in a Los Angeles warehouse | Taza Khabre

Key findings

  • Supercars gather at an abandoned warehouse in Los Angeles for a drift event organized by YouTuber Vehicle Virgins.
  • The McLaren and Porsche take center stage with impressive drift performance, while the heavily modified BMW steals the show.
  • The Mazda MX-5 Miata surprises with its unique exoskeleton design, proving that any car can become a drifter with power and space.

Supercars are some of the most exciting vehicles on the planet, but it’s not very often that you get to have fun with them. YouTuber Vehicle Virgins wanted to change that, so he organized a meeting of various supercars in Los Angeles at an abandoned warehouse. The task was simple: bring the cars to the warehouse, drive them and make noise. If you’ve ever wondered what that would look like, this video will answer your question.

McLarens feature prominently in the video, but there are others sports cars at the exhibition. A Nissan 350Z and a pair of Porsche 911s took on the challenge to see who could drift the best. The BMW E92 also comes to play, albeit with some major modifications.

Perhaps the wildest of all the cars in stock is the stripped-down Mazda MX-5 Miata. It created an exoskeleton sports car and a Miata like no other. Be prepared for some serious tire screeching and noise.

The YouTuber and his friends rented a warehouse specifically for this purpose, and there are many incredible cars on display. Three McLarens arrived in stock, including the car owned by Lando Norris, a 765LT with a carbon fiber widebody kit.

This particular McLaren also had a Stage 2 tuning kit added and its owner claims it produces over 1,000bhp. A titanium exhaust and roll cage are two additional features, while a carbon fiber rear wing is prominently positioned at the rear.

The most striking McLaren of all, it has one of the most iconic liveries ever seen on their cars. This is a McLaren 720S in the iconic red and white colors of Marlboro, the sponsor that appeared on the company’s cars in Formula 1 from the 1970s until the mid-1990s.

Marlboro is best known for sponsoring the great Ayrton Senna’s McLaren when the three-time world champion drove for the team from 1988 to 1993. Senna won all three world titles at the wheel of the Marlboro-sponsored McLaren, and all but six of his Grand Prix victories came with the team.

A total of three McLarens are drifting in the lineup. The second of the trio is the 600LT in a gorgeous dark purple and exposed carbon finish. Purple is located across the front, sides and rear of the supercar.

Carbon provides a nice contrast and is found on the McLaren’s bonnet, roof, front splitter and rear wing. It’s this purple McLaren that’s ready to drift first, its owner gliding around the warehouse making a lot of noise. There is a lot of burnt rubber when the car spins. HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle had this to say about the McLaren 600LT:

“But once behind the wheel, what really comes to the fore is the incredible suspension tuning job that McLaren manages to do in a supercar with a low stance. The combination of light power, confident cornering and comfortable ride quality is simply beyond comprehension, in my opinion, simply taking everything I love about Lotus cars and more in every way.”

Porsche 911 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 RS

As a rear-wheel drive sports car, the Porsche 911 is the perfect car for drifting. A couple of them take part in the fun, including the GT3 Cup and a special GT3 RS. The RS car is finished in the factory Porsche GT racing livery made famous at races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GT3 Cup was the first Porsche to start drifting, and it made a lot of noise. Its six-cylinder engine screams in a stock way that most of us would probably find deafening.

It’s the turn of the Nissan 350Z, after the GT3 Cup that was Nissan’s previous sports car, to the new, budget-friendly and mod-friendly 2023 Z. This 350Z is a custom drift car, and it shows as it glides around the lineup with ease. This particular 350Z features new wheels, a boosted engine, and some exterior changes to the body, so it’s a far cry from the day it left the factory. The 350Z produces the most controlled drift to date, but the soundtrack is still impressive. However, it’s the next car, the E92 M3, that creates the most dramatic drifts.

The BMW M3 is the most modified car in stock

The highlights from the drifting supercar video

  • Three McLarens take part in drifting in an abandoned warehouse
  • One of the sports McLaren paints Marlboro
  • The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup creates a deafening soundtrack
  • BMW M3 E92 has undergone serious modifications

This BMW is the most modified of all the cars here. The noise is on another level and the crowd of content creators cover their ears as it rages around the warehouse. A custom paint job and rear wing are the biggest exterior changes, but Vehicle Virgins suggests the bigger changes are under the skin. The GT3 RS is BMW’s continuation, putting on an incredible show. However, at the end, the YouTuber positions his camera near the exhaust manifolds, and we see them glow a bright red, showing just how hard this car has been working.

Some cars drift better than others

Some of the best drift cars come from Japan. We saw this when Max Verstappen drove the 1992 Mazda RX-7 drift car normally driven by Michael “Mad Mike” Viddett. The MX-5 Miata in the Vehicle Virgins video is also impressive, but it’s not uncommon for other cars to become drifters.

In 2022, content creator Larry Chen tested the incredible V12 2011 Ferrari 599 owned by Federico Sceriffo. This car competes in the Formula Drift Championship and shows what a supercar can do when it becomes a custom drift car. However, as Vehicle Virgins has shown, all you need for drifting fun is one powerful car and a large empty warehouse.
