Sony Pictures / Sony Pictures

Daredevil also defeated by Marvel Daredevil The TV series, which premiered in 2015, is among the greatest comic book adaptations of all time. But once you read our reasons why we recommend it Daredevil film, you may see the film in a different light.

Daredevil has a great cast

Make no mistake, there are definitely missteps in it Daredevil film. But the casting isn’t one of them. Ben Affleck may not recognize this film, but he’s a good choice for Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and this is his proving ground before he’s finally cast as Batman in a DCEU film. Affleck also met his future (and now ex) wife, Jennifer Garner, who was having an interesting run Alias to play Elektra. Garner also headlined a electricity spin-off film, but let’s just say we won’t tout the film’s merits.

Before he led the first two Iron Man film and appearing as Happy Hogan in the MCU, Jon Favreau co-stars in the film as Matt’s best friend, Foggy Nelson. The late Michael Clarke Duncan was an inspired choice to play Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, and MatrixJoe Pantoliano has a supporting role as reporter Ben Urich. It’s also easy to forget that Ellen Pompeo has appeared as Karen Page before Grey’s Anatomy making him a TV superstar. Colin Farrell also gave his best performance as Bullseye almost two decades before he appeared as the Penguin in the film The Batman. If it is possible to reunite these players in 2024, it would still be a great lineup.

This film has exciting action

Johnson succumbs to silliness early in the film when Elektra and Matt have a mock duel in public while he tries to seduce her. That’s not the best choice. But later in the film, Elektra becomes convinced that Daredevil is responsible for her father’s death, and she is so enraged that she tries to kill him herself.

At this point in her respective careers, Garner has had more action training than Affleck, which may be why she seems better suited for these scenes. But when Daredevil fights Elektra at the risk of his life, it is one of the best scenes in the film. Daredevil’s subsequent fights with Bullseye and Kingpin also have their moments, but it’s the fight with Elektra that makes the film.

The R-rated cut of Daredevil makes it a better film

Long before Zack Snyder’s Justice League coming, the R-rated director’s cut Daredevil was released on DVD and Blu-ray, and that actually makes it a much better film. For starters, the action is ramped up, and the extra 30 minutes give the characters more depth than the theatrical version. Affleck’s Matt Murdock is especially helpful when he questions whether what he’s doing as Daredevil is truly right or just another form of evil. This also informs Matt’s decision at the end of the film to step back from killing his enemies.

There’s also a whole subplot inserted back into the film surrounding Dante Jackson (Coolio), a client facing murder charges who Matt and Foggy represent. This ties back to the Kingpin plot, and it also gives Foggy a heroic lead in the law while his partner steps out of it. The difference between the two film versions is actually night and day. If you want to watch Daredevilthe director’s cut is the one you should choose.
