Fantastic Four MCU: release date, trailer, cast, plot

Wonder

It’s no coincidence that one of the first Marvel films announced after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019 was a new reboot. Fantastic Four. In 1961, Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby launched the Marvel Universe as we know it Fantastic Four #1and it’s the comic that sets the tone for everything that happens after.

Because the rights to the Fantastic Four were tied up at Fox for over two decades, FF supporting players like the Silver Surfer were barred from the MCU. Now that the characters are under the control of Marvel Studios, the sky is the limit for future reboots. And we’re here to share everything we know Fantastic Four so far.

Who plays a role in The Fantastic Four?

After a very long casting process, Marvel Studios has revealed the main actors in it Fantastic Four. Mandalorians And The last of us‘ Pedro Pascal will headline the film as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, leader of the Fantastic Four whose powers allow him to stretch his body to almost any shape and size. He is also a genius equal to or even superior to Tony Stark.

Mission: Impossible – Dead ReckoningVanessa Kirby has been cast as Susan Storm, aka Invisible Woman. Her codename is actually an understatement of her powers as Susan isn’t just limited to being invisible. He can turn anything invisible and create invisible objects around him that can be used as weapons or shields. Susan’s role in the comics was originally a damsel in distress before she was re-imagined as a strong heroine. In almost every incarnation of the team, she is Reed’s girlfriend or wife.

Stranger Things‘ Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, a role last played by Michael B. Jordan and Chris Evans. Given that pedigree, Quinn has a lot to live up to. However, we recently reviewed some of Quinn’s roles in film and TV, showing that he’s not limited to playing characters like Eddie Munson. Johnny’s powers give him complete control over fire, and also allow him to fly.

Finally, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is scheduled to play Benjamin Grimm aka The Thing. Unlike the rest of the team, Ben’s powers create a physical mutation that makes him look like a rock monster. The power also gives Ben incredible physical strength, almost on par with the Hulk. Moss-Bachrach previously played Micro/David Lieberman in the Netflix Marvel TV series, Punisher. He also appeared in Andor season 1.

No other cast members have been revealed at this time, but the small robot in the left corner suggests that HERBIE will be featured in the film. Humanoid Experimental Robot, type B, Integrated Electronics was created in 1978 Fantastic Four animated series replaced Human Torch. And HERBIE was later integrated into the comics as well.

Who directed and wrote The Fantastic Four?

If you’re a fan of mainstream geeky pop culture, there’s a good chance Matt Shakman is involved — this rising director sits down with it @jacobkleinman to speak #Godzillathe new one @appletv MonsterVerse shows, that is #MCUand much more. pic.twitter.com/azMXEUOjbm

Matt Shakman directs Fantastic Four on a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Shakman is best known for executive producing and directing all nine episodes WandaVision. Shakman’s most recent directing credits include one episode Consultant and two episodes King: Legacy of the Monsters. In an interview with BackwardsShakman explained how he would use the comics, rather than previous film adaptations, as his source of inspiration Fantastic Four.

“I don’t watch too many other films,” Shakman said. “I was looking at the comic itself. I’m a big fan of comic books. I’ve been a huge fan of the Fantastic Four since I was a kid. So going back to Kirby, Lee, and Byrne and keeping up with what’s going on, of course, Hickman, Waid, and Ryan North, what he’s been up to. I try to figure out who these characters are to me and how to bring them to life in the best way, and that’s where I start and how we approach it.”

Jon Watts, director of the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, was initially attached to direct Fantastic Four. However, Watts left the project in April 2022citing the need for a break from the superhero genre.

What is the storyline of The Fantastic Four?

Since the film is still in its early stages, there are some questions we can’t answer yet. This is one of them. Three of the four previous Fantastic Four films dealt with the team’s origin story. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has indicated that the MCU reboot will follow the example of the most recent Spider-Man trilogy by simply skipping the origin altogether.

There are rumors circulating Fantastic Four the film may be set in the ’60s, and the newly released promo art has a throwback aesthetic and logo that might lend credence to that theory. However, at this time, this cannot be confirmed.

Who are the villains in The Fantastic Four?

Doctor Doom strikes a threatening pose.
Marvel comics

There are two obvious choices: Doctor Doom and Galactus. Doctor Doom, aka Victor Von Doom, has been featured in every Fantastic Four film to date. The comic book incarnation of Doom is one of the most popular villains in the Marvel pantheon. In cinematic terms, Doom could easily be the new Thanos. Marvel needs someone to fill that main villain role, especially now that Jonathan Majors has been fired from his role as Kang in the future.

Galactus looms large in this image from Marvel Comics.
Marvel comics

Galactus is a planet-eating alien who appears as a giant humanoid. He is a largely invisible nemesis Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but comic book fans took issue with the film’s depiction of Galactus as a giant space cloud. Presumably, the MCU reboot won’t make the same mistake.

There’s also an argument to be made that Doom and Galactus are too big for FF’s first MCU film. Both characters would probably have been better served with more preparation for their respective debuts. If Marvel wants to give this franchise a fresh start, it might be a good idea not to rehash the four films that came before this film. Moreover, the team does have other villains who can be convincingly portrayed as threats in the film, such as Annihilus. But until Marvel reveals who is playing the villain, we won’t know what threats the Fantastic Four will face.

Is Kang related to Reed Richards?

Kang walks the battlefield in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Marvel Studios

Well, at least in the world of Marvel comic books. Their connection may be downplayed or simply ignored in the MCU. Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards, which tends to confuse casual fans because it’s also Reed’s father’s name. The elder Nathaniel Richards is a scientist and time-traveling explorer who is an ancestor of Reed and Kang. Years after Reed was born, Nathaniel met a woman named Cassandra, who lived in one of Earth’s alternate timelines, and he had a child with her. Kang’s familial connection to Nathaniel is through his union with Cassandra, who gave birth to his direct ancestor.

That might be too much for comic book movie fans to absorb. So, if there is a Kang and Reed connection in the MCU, it will most likely be streamlined. Kang was also one of the first Fantastic Four villains during his time as Rama-Tut in ancient Egypt.

The Fantastic Four will be a ‘big pillar’ of the future of the MCU

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige opens up about the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’. film, teasing him as a ‘huge pillar’ of the MCU’s future plans.

— Entertainment Weekly (@EW) February 15, 2023

Without Iron Man or Captain America, Marvel needs a new leader. Could the Fantastic Four members be the MCU’s new torchbearers? According to Feige, Marvel has big plans for the Fantastic Four. “We planned that (Fantastic Four) become a big pillar of the MCU in the future, as they have done in the comics for 50 or 60 years,” Feige said. THAT IS.

Is there a trailer for The Fantastic Four yet?

No. Casting hasn’t even been finalized yet, and a production start date hasn’t been announced yet. So, it’s too early for any movie footage to be cut into a trailer. Marvel usually likes to share first looks at its films during big events like D23 or San Diego Comic-Con, but it’s doubtful that a full trailer will ever be released. Fantastic Four will be ready for 2024 unless it maintains its debut at December’s CCXP in Brazil, which is emerging as one of the world’s biggest comic conventions.

If the CCXP premiere comes out, then the public debut will be Fantastic FourThe first trailer may not be released until early 2025.
