Key findings

  • Rezvani Motors announces the recreation of the classic Porsche 935 under the new sub-brand Rezvani Retro.

  • A turbocharged engine is expected with modern underpinnings and technology.

  • RR1 will be unveiled on April 16.

Rezvani Motors, maker of the bulletproof Beast hypercar unveiled in February, has unveiled what has piqued the curiosity of Porsche fanatics everywhere: a recreation of the classic Porsche 935 (rather than the modern version based on the GT2 RS). To be clear, Rezvani Motors didn’t specifically mention the Porsche 935, but the silhouette is simply unmistakable.

Rezvani said it is launching a new sub-brand called Rezvani Retro, which will be a new design house “specially created to pay homage to beloved classic automotive icons (…), designing vehicles that capture the essence of beloved vintage models.”

Consider us intrigued.

History

The original Porsche 935 race car was introduced during the 1976 season in Group 5 racing, the rules of which were known as the “silhouette rules” due to the wide range of modifications allowed, including the bodywork of these production cars.

Like its 2019 namesake (of which only 77 were built), every 1970s variant of the Porsche 935 race car (of which there were several, including the K3) featured an insane turbo, and as its formidable reputation grew, the car’s wings was often clipped entering certain series, or simply dropped from the competition for fear he would clean up and win nearly every trophy in nearly every race.

What is Rezvani Retro Building?

The first model teased here is figuratively named the RR1 and will be offered as an “exclusive edition,” meaning very limited numbers and a proportionately high price that only wealthy collectors can afford. If you’re one of them, the fully refundable $500 reservation can be paid now.

Since Rezvani has never done a project like this before, it’s hard to predict what we can expect. Will it taste right? Is stylish design even a factor in the Porsche 935 redesign? Will the Rezvani start from scratch or use something like the 911 Turbo as a base?

Release date

We’ll find out the answers to these questions and more on April 16, but no doubt there will be more teasers in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, Rezvani has made it clear that the car won’t be completely vintage, as the company promises a “unique blend of past and present” where “high-tech elements are expertly integrated into designs inspired by the past.” In essence, it should be a completely modern car with several hundred horsepower on tap, topped with a vintage look. We can’t wait.
