The other side of the argument tends to focus on the small bike’s lack of power, and with only 24 hp. and 23.6 lb-ft of torque, that’s a valid point. Fortunately, Royal Enfield is currently dealing with this issue. While we’re not getting the Himalayan with a 650cc parallel engine just yet, they’ve upped the displacement a bit — the updated Himalayan will have a 450cc engine.

The Himalayan 450 might just be one of the most exciting products we’ve seen from Royal Enfield in recent times, and that should reflect in terms of volume given that the company has completely reinvented itself over the past few years. It combines affordability, comfortable performance, rugged looks and enough features to make it a great everyday bike. We recently got a glimpse of just how powerful the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 can be thanks to Indian Dakar legend KS Santosh. Now RE is teasing us with a series of YouTube Shorts called The Final Test. This brings us to the “final challenge” of the new Himalayan 450, a 3,417-mile endurance test from southern India to the top of the Himalayas.

The new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is an all-new bike, but it still retains some styling cues from the original. We already mentioned that the Himalayan 450 got a new engine. In addition, it gets a new lattice frame. We expect the new frame to not only significantly reduce the bike’s weight, but also improve its handling.
Other notable changes on the new Himalayan 450 adventure bike include a larger fuel tank, new body panels, LED headlamps, new fully digital instrument panel, USD fork, new front disc brake, different gear shifter and guardrail. The feature of this lot that has our unwavering attention is the cool circular TFT instrument panel. Thanks to YouTuber Itchy Boots, we got a first-hand look at how TFT looks and works. The top half of the round instrument cluster transforms into a cute turn-by-turn map display when needed. This is a cool and much needed feature for an adventure bike like the Himalayan.
While these are some positive improvements, the design language of the Himalayan 450 is clearly inspired by the previous model. This is a smart move by Royal Enfield as too many changes could potentially upset its established fan base. Additionally, according to our sister website, Topspeed.com, the spoked wheels on the 450 are seemingly identical to those on the current model. They both feature a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. Whether these will be the same wheels on the production version remains to be seen, but we do know that Royal Enfield has a set of spoked wheels that can use tubeless tires, so that could be another option. Also, the 2024 Himalayan 450 will be offered with a host of new shades. We can make out some of the new ones from official teasers and leaked images. There are certainly many reasons why we would want to buy an entry-level adventure motorcycle.

This is big news that has most RE fans shaking with excitement. Although increasing the working volume by 40 cm3 may seem like an easy task, it is much more. Royal Enfield now accelerates the Himalayan. The current Himalayan 410 is equipped with an oil-cooled unit, which, as we already found out, is quite weak. On the other hand, the new 450 model will be Royal Enfield’s first motorcycle to get a liquid-cooled engine.
The new 450cc single-cylinder engine is rumored to potentially get 4V technology, but nothing has been confirmed. We know that the new liquid-cooled mill will improve performance and comfort, as well as reduce noise levels. Speaking of performance, according to our sister website, Topspeed, the Himalayan 450 is estimated to produce approximately 40 hp. and more than 30 lb-ft of torque, a significant improvement over the current oil-cooled model. If these numbers are correct, the Himalayan 450 will be a much better adventure bike option than its predecessor and on par with the KTM 390 Adventure.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Launch Date and Price
Royal Enfield has always offered some of the most affordable bikes in the market, and that’s unlikely to change with the new Himalayan 450. The current Himalayan model retails for $5,449 in the United States, undercutting its three main rivals — the KTM 390 Adventure, the Kawasaki Versys X 300 and the BMW G310GS , which retail for $7,399, $5,899, and $5,695, respectively.
Even though the new Himalayan 450 comes with a lot of updates, we still expect it to be cheaper than its biggest rival, the KTM 390. At the moment, the Royal Enfield adventure bike will be too ahead of the Versys and Bimmer, so we wouldn’t be surprised. , if it will be more expensive than those. With the KTM retailing at $7,399, we’re probably not too far off the mark if we predict the Himalayan will hit the market around the $6,000-$6,500 mark, putting it in the same price bracket as the Continental GT 650.

After the release of the current Himalayan Royal Enfield did catch a certain chip. First, in the motorcycle’s promo video, the footpeg fell off during a short off-road ride. Back then, the first production bikes to hit the market in the brand’s home country of India suffered from quality issues. Although Royal Enfield did solve these problems, it tarnished their name in western markets.
Since then they have proven that they are certainly capable of building reliable bikes, but unfairly enough, it seems that many people still perceive the quality of the brand as inferior. Since the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is a brand new bike, there could potentially be some issues, but that’s the case with almost any motorcycle manufacturer when they launch a new product. Royal Enfield has come a long way in recent years and we know they want to cement their reputation as a manufacturer of quality bikes, so it is certain that the Himalayan 450 will be their best yet.
